virus defense group

A one-page website for a Charleston disinfecting start-up in the summer of 2020 — calm where the subject was clinical, explained in one illustrated icon set, and closed by a quote form that does the qualifying before anyone picks up the phone.

THE BRIEF

a serious service, a nervous market, and no time for wireframes.

Virus Defense Group launched in Charleston, South Carolina, in the summer of 2020, disinfecting offices, gyms, restaurants and homes with a botanical, bleach-free spray applied by electrostatic equipment — a service every facility manager was suddenly looking for. It had to be found, and trusted, quickly, in a market full of fear and chemistry. The brief was a professional website within weeks that made a serious subject feel clean and calm rather than clinical: white space, plain language, pictures instead of jargon, and one clear way for a business to ask for a price.

WHAT WE DID

01

the page

  • Built the site as a single scroll — the hero, how the service works, the electrostatic technology, the eleven industries it serves — set on white, with every claim turned into a picture, so a serious subject reads calm rather than clinical.
  • Designed it directly in WordPress rather than in static mockups, so the founders were clicking through a working homepage within five days and the company was online while the demand was still new.

02

the icons

  • Drew an illustrated icon set in one style — sky blue and navy, with touches of red and green — for the benefits the service leads with and the industries it serves, from healthcare and transit to gyms and construction sites.
  • Built the set to grow: when a longer-lasting treatment joined the service later that year, a new icon joined the row in the same hand, and the page took it in without a redesign.

03

the first and last screen

  • Art-directed the hero as a photograph held in a circle with a colored crescent, set in the navy of the company’s shield, so the first screen and the brand read as one.
  •  Closed the page with a quote form that asks what a sales call would — the size of the space, one visit or a schedule — so the first reply could carry a price, not another question.

THE OUTCOME

a serious service, made to look calm — and online while the demand was still new.
